ALICE COOPER Kicks Off GUITARMANIA Project In Phoenix
November 9, 2004Jane Larson of The Arizona Republic is reporting that Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and rocker Alice Cooper formally kicked off the combination street-art and fund-raising project known as GuitarMania Tuesday (Nov. 9).
Some 60 corporations ranging from Dillard's Inc. to Motorola Inc. and P.F. Chang's China Bistro Inc. have signed on as sponsors of the 10-foot-tall guitars that will grace Valley streets next year.
"It says with this partnership that we've arrived," Gordon said during a news conference outside America West Arena. "This is a city that believes in culture, that believes in music, especially rock 'n' roll. With the announcement today, this city is really going to rock and roll."
Cooper and executives from Big Brothers Big Sisters and Scottsdale-based Fender Musical Instruments Corp. were in Cleveland over the weekend for an official "passing of the guitar" to Phoenix. Read more.
